Greetings Friends of Northern Star,

If you haven't heard the great news by now, we saved the Northern Star. I was told by Bill and numerous others who are working to keep the coffee shop open that if it were not for the response of the community and their commitments, the coffee shop would not be open today! You play a part in this tremendous story. A story of how a small group of people saved something they believed in. Strangers only weeks ago, we now share a common bond. Way to go! And thank you so much! This community owes you a debt of gratitude as does the Northern Star. Which leads me to lay out a few facts:

The Northern Star Coffeehouse faces closing its doors in a couple of weeks because it has fallen on difficult times. That is, unless we do something. That's right. Us. You and I. We can save the coffeehouse! Wanna help. Read on.

You Can Help!

For many of us the Northern Star Coffeehouse has become more than just a place to satisfy our coffee craving, it has also become that perfect place to relax over a cup of coffee in a great atmosphere. If you sit back and watch you'll see all kinds of people interacting. You may see parents with their children during "reading time" on the back deck. You'll witness countless business meetings and of course the standard grab a coffee and go crowd. Wherever you might fit, the coffeehouse in historic downtown Norcross is worth saving! That is wwhy we are asking you to do something very unique. As a community, we are going to try to save the store. The good news is that the solution is a simple one. It comes down to numbers. The coffeehouse does not serve quite enough people yet to cover its expenses. So, until it can, we are hoping you will join "Friends of Northern Star" and save this great place from closing. Once touted as "the new heart of downtown Norcross" by the Gwinnett Business Journal, it is clear that Northern Star Coffeehouse is very important to this area. Come on. Why not. Below are several options for how you can save the coffeehouse. Our online donations are all handled via Paypal and can be completed using any major credit card. 100 percent of the money you give goes directly to Northern Star (this website and all administration are being donated by Sprocket. For more questions regarding the automated monthly payment plans, Paypal payments and other terms please see our FAQ. Oh, if our goal is not met by July 30th your money will be refunded. It doesn't cost very much and what you will get in return will be well worth your time and investment.

Get Involved & Be A Part of the Long Term Success of Northern Star

So how can Northern Star stay open even past the next 6 to 12 months? What happens when the donations run out? These are great questions, and we're looking to all of you for answers. That's right. Maybe you've got ideas for how to generate more traffic to the shop? Maybe you've always wanted to volunteer to start another group meeting at the shop? Maybe you've got some other super great ideas we've never even thought of? That's the idea. So share yours with us and get in touch with Bill about doing something to help generate more business for Northern Star. We have one small qualification for these "ideas" we're requesting. The only qualification is that you only offer ideas that you or someone you know is willing to help make happen. In other words, don't offer up ideas like "oh yeah . . . I've always thought you should add lots of taxidermy to the shop and attract a hunting crowd cause that would just be totally awesome." We want ideas like "oh yeah . . . I've got all this taxidermy and I'd like to put it in the shop to attract a hunting crowd and it will be totally awesome." Oh yeah, we do have one more qualification. No idea can involve adding a taxidermy display to the shop :)

Frequently Asked Questions

With anything like this there are a number of questions that probably pop into your head right away. We've done our best to answer them right here. If there's something you'd like to know and you don't see it answered here in this FAQ please feel free to contact us at saveit@savenorthernstar.com.

  1. So who's behind this little campaign to save Northern Star?

    A small graphic design firm who has an office about a quarter mile from the shop. Oh, and hopefully you too. We're just a part of the community who has come to love the shop. We have several client meetings there every week, we go to the wine tastings, hang out when we want a break from the office, attend the Theology Cafe there and go there to brainstorm on ideas for our business. It's our second home!!

  2. I'm new to Paypal. How does it work?

    Paypal is a fully secure online payment option that allows you to pay using any major credit card. You can create a Paypal account so that your payment settings can be used again for other Paypal transactions, or you can select to simply pay with a credit card and NOT create a Paypal account.   3. Can I cancel my Paypal subscription before 6 months? How do I do that?

    Yes! You can cancel your subscription at any time if you decide you don't wish to continue it for the full 6 or 12 months. For detailed instructions on how to cancel a Paypal subscription please click here.

  4. What happens if we don't raise enough money to save Northern Star? Where does my money go?

    All online donations will be held in a Paypal account until the deadline date. If the total number of commitments has not produced an adequate amount to save Northern Star then all Paypal transactions will be refunded. That's right! If it doesn't produce enough by the initial deadline then you'll get your money back.

  5. What happens to my money when I give by mail? Are the terms the same as online giving?

    All mailed in checks and cash will be held until the initial deadline. If we don't raise enough money to save the shop, your checks will be voided and/or your cash will be returned (be certain you include a self addressed and stamped envelope with cash in case a return is necessary).

  6. So when's this initial deadline for raising enough support?

    SOON! As in July 28th. That's right, we need you to make a decision soon to help.

  7. Are there other ways I can help aside from opening my wallet?

    Ok, so in the short term the most important thing we can do is to rais some funds to keep the doors open at Northern Star. However, it wouldn't do much good to keep it open for 6 more months if we're not also thinking about the long term. We need your ideas for this and you can provide them to us at our Get Involved section.
